I sent in my initial application to NS on May 3rd and as I wait to hear back, I am putting my docs together - i need some advise here. As per New Delhi office, I need PCC from every city I stayed for 6 months or more since i tunred 18, By that rule, I lived in Mumbai for 2 years and Chennai for 3 years. DO i need to go in person to get the PCCs there or can someone else do it on my behalf?

DO let me know if anyone has similar experiences

Hi smitha,
i do have similar experience.I lived in coimbatore for 5 years and presently in bangalore since 5 years. Last week i enquired about the same in coimbatore police station.The police officials informed me that during the application submission i need to be there in person,but any of my representatives can collect the PCC.This because some times they require proof of identity,Photo and birth mark or finger print and fee.

Hi Anu

Thanks for sharing your information - did you approach the local police station or the commissioner's office? i need the RPOs are also authorized to give PCC but when I called them about the same, they told me that I have to be a current resident.

I have contacted the local police station through my friends and they informed my frients that i need to fill the PCC form along with my passport copy,2 photographs,and the purpose for PCC and fee.RPOs is also authorised to give.

Hi Smitha,

First of all, you need to submit only one PCC for your stay in India, if you have travel abroad you need to submit additional PCC accordingly.

Secondly, in Mumbai you can apply to New Passport Office, Worli for PCC. If your passport is issued in Mumbai, you will get PCC on the same day in evening from Passport office itself; otherwise Passport Office will send your details to a police station near your place of stay (you can ask them which police station) here they will do police verification. Generally Passport office sends your details in five working days to Police Station, though you would like to keep in touch with concerned Police Station to speed-up the things, once this part is over it will take another 3-4 weeks for you to receive PCC that will be via Speed Post.

At passport office you need to submit duly filled Form 2 & Personal Particular From, 2 photos, copy of your passport, communication from embassy asking for PCC. Also at the time of application Passport office will take your Passport and will return it with PCC.
Spouse can submit each others' and children's' application.

Hope I have answered your questions!

I am not sure about this alternative, so please check out before following this;
If you get PCC from (through) Passport Office from where you got your passport; you do not need to get PCC from multiple places;
but in that case you need to submit your passport to passport office. Before submitting passport have full copy of passport with you for your record.

good luck.

Thanks for the the elaborate answer. Although I may not need it but I am sure it will be very helpful to others.

Smitha,
If you are in India this process it correct. If you are away from India you need to contact local Indian Consulate to get PCC.

All the best!!!

Thanks everybody - I went to the Hyderabad RPO yesterday - where I currently stay and was told that for all of India one PCC is sufficient.
