Do we need to submit Canadian police clearance? On the CIC website it says only in certain cases. Please comment!. Thanks

I am not a pro…..so when in doubt contact CIC (more than once if you can, to make sure you get the same answer, as they aren’t always accurate).

But from what I understand, they do their own check for Canada. It is all countries outside of Canada for which you have lived for more than 6 months past the age of 18.

Hello Jasminexyz,

You likely don't need to submit it...just the police check of the country of origin. My wife submitted one from the FBI, and then recently we got back a request to submit one for the RCMP as well, which we got done (pretty quickly, in fact). I assume that is because my wife has been staying with me as a visitor (legally) for more than 6 months.

So to answer your question, don't worry about submitted an RCMP check, but be ready to have one made if they request one.

Thanks to both of you. I was in Canada for four years on student visa. During the initial stages of our application (gathering documents to be more precise) we learned from this forum that we don't need to but now I have come across several posts which says we have to. So I was a little confused and worried.
