Police Check - Already in Canada

Hello,

I received my ITA and getting all my documents prepared. Do I need a police check from Canada if I am currently living here? I was also here for a year from 2010-2011 on a student visa?

So CIC will request details for a police check to the Canadian government on my behalf? I do not have to get my own and submit a Canadian police check? That correct?
