Police character certificate for Nigerians living abroad

I need help with the process for getting a PCC as a Nigerian living abroad. I understand that I need to apply for it from the CID office in Lagos. However I'm wondering if I need to get the PCC certified by the Nigerian consulate in the country I currently live in. Does anyone have experience with this? Did anyone get PCC from Lagos and still had it certified by the consulate in country of residence? thanks for your answers!
