Hi everyone,

As I can't find any answers on older posts, I'm creating a new topic, hoping that someone can help...

I applied under the CEC category in Feb13. I provided the Police Certication from my native country (France), but didn't send the one for the period when I lived in China (2.5 years). Since then, after 3 unsuccessful attempts through relatives in Shanghai, I still haven't got this document. Each time, the Police officer asked for other documents and the list keeps getting longer and longer... So, here are my questions:
- Has someone here been through this process? Any tip?
- How important is this document for the application? What if I never get it?

Many thanks!

What type of visa did you have? From the US State Dept website -

"Certificates are available for those in the J-1, Z, and X categories. The GOC does not issue police records for temporary residents of China in L or F visa categories."

Hi Jes_ON,

I had a 'Residence Permit for foreigner' and this visa does not have any letter... L and F being the short-stay visas, I think that I should be fine.

I'll contact my previous employer as I was legally employed by them during that time and they will probably be able to help on that.

Many thanks for your help, Jes_ON, and I'll update this post to share my experience (hopefully, I'll get the document!)

Sorry for your bad experience Cantaupe. I have heard it is very difficult to get PCC in China for foreigners as it seems different cities have different rules. I guess you should contact your previous employer or the security department of your previous employer to get a certified letter that proves you were clean during your stay in China, then go to the notary to get an authorized request and then go to the local police station near where you lived to ask them to issue the PCC for you. Then the notary will get it notarized and translated.....that's the procedure that i heard, but i am not sure if it works in Shanghai.. anyway good luck to you!!

Hi jes_ON !!!

Can you please share the link where it is mentioned that GOC does not issue records for temporary residents of China in L or F visa categories. In fact the link you have provided in your quoted post does not open and gives an error.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply..
