Hi, Ive already applied for outland family sponsorship (currently live in Guatemala with my wife and kids) and recently I got an email requesting I send police certificates from USA I guess since I studied there for about 4 years. Doing some research I see it takes about 12 weeks to get the report back after you send them fingerprints, forms and money. Still I was looking about at these web page http://www.myfbireport.com/turnAround.php and it says it can be done faster, is this true? is this a good option or should I go the other route?

if you are not a us citizen, then you need to get the report directly from the FBI. CIC will only accept reports from approved channelers, which are listed on the CIC website. However, from what I understand these channelers can only do reports for us citizens who can receive mail in the us. For others, there's really no other option than to go direct through the FBI.

Yes, it does take 12-16 weeks to receive the report directly from the FBI, so it's recommended to start the process ASAP. while you wait, it is important to send CIC proof of your FBI application/payment and notify them you'll forward the report once received so they know you are trying to comply with your request. if you don't respond at all, they can close your file.
