Hi Everyone,

Please help me with the below query and need suggestions as to what would be the best way to approach this?

I currently live in Mumbai, I have lived here for about 5 years however I recently moved in with a friend hence do not have a local address proof.

I need to apply for my Police Certificate, my passport has my permanent address which is in Assam. So to get my police certificate within 2-3 weeks what is the best way to go about it?

1. Should I apply in Mumbai or Assam?
2. Can I apply is both the places?
3. Should I get in touch with Passport Seva Kendra or The local police station?

PSK assam, you will get it in 1 hr. You can't use PSK mumbai unless you have address proof.

Thank you so much, so I am planning to go to Assam and apply for the same - do they visit the address to verify? Then I may stay until the certificate is issued

If the local PSK is serving the city in your passport then there will not be police verification.

You should apply in Assam. The PSK issues PCC in one hour only if the passport was issued in last 12 months. If its more than 12 months, Police Verification is required which will take 1-2 weeks.

Nope. I got mine at the psk in one hour and my passport is 8 years old.

Negative, the Passport officer told me this in detail when I applied for PCC in April this year.

The PSK will issue you the PCC then and there only if your current address and the one on the passport is the same, irrespective of the issue date. My passport was issued 5 years ago but the address was the same hence i got it immediately.
