Hello ,
I am interested to know if any one sponsorship affected by poison pen letters? How CIC deal with that kind of letters? Any idea?

Thanks for reading my post and replies

I had to google that term. Never heard it before. I like it

Considering how hard it is for the applicants themselves to provide additional information to CIC, I would imagine it is a lot harder for third parties to send additional information about that applicant (whether positive or negative). Unless of course the information is regarding fraud.

Unless the content of the letter displays tangible proof that the relationship is not genuine or the applicant lied about their application, I can't imagine the CIC would pay any attention to it, let alone open it.

CIC could certainly look into the information given. It might cause them to take more time and a detailed look into the relationship. They could also call for an interview to see how the applicant reacts in person to more deep and personal questions.

it will most likely trigger an interview. CIC can't just reject an application without giving the applicant/sponsor the chance to answer to the concerns. even the smallest comment written in a file can trigger an interview.

CIC is very aware of "poison pen" letters. It is common in cases where some relative or jilted ex did not approve of a marriage and is trying to sabotage it or cause grief. CIC takes any such letters with a grain of salt. A letter on its own with no hard proof will not be enough. If there is a lot of documentation proof and a sworn affidavit where the accuser is legally responsible for the accusations, then it would cause CIC to investigate (interview the accuser and then the applicant).

You can see in appeal cases some examples of where the visa post received a 'poison pen' letter. Apparently the visa officers do read them, and do take them into account. Now, a poison pen letter that is anonymous or that has no accompanying evidence might not be taken as seriously as one where the writer includes contact information and/or proof, but these letters have been acted on. They might trigger an interview, where the applicant will be asked about the allegations. If he or she can explain them away, great. But since they show up in appeal hearings, apparently they also can be part of the reason for refusals. A poison pen letter with no evidence would never be the only thing to trigger a refusal, though.

If you go to the CanLII website, you can search immigration appeal cases. I entered the search terms 'poison+pen+letter' and 'immigration' and got over 100 cases. Many of these appeals were allowed, and in some the judge hearing the appeal did state that poison pen letters are inherently unreliable; however, some visa officers relied on them enough to refuse the PR visa application.

poison pen letters is nothing new for CIC

Usually, not a big deal.

Personally, though I'd let it go and let them do their job. You've done your due diligence by what you've posted before. The more you push this, the less likely they are to listen. Keep it short and sweet. The pushier you get, at least if I were an officer, it would start to seem that you just want them gone (either as a jealous ex or a disapproving family member) not that they are actually doing something wrong ( I don't have all the details so I won't pass judgement either way) so they may not take it seriously. I'd provide what they ask of you, make your case and give them the pertinent info, that's it.

Hi .

Thanks for every one negative and positive replies. GOD bless all of you. :) :) Well , I never want to put some one in trouble. Marriage is pure relationship , its hurt me when people use marriage for business. Specially , when its right for some religious people. Because , of that kind of people others think wrong about (the religion they are believer ) Infact , this is wrong thing is any religion No matter what is our religion but every religion teach us for same thing . ( specially , stay away from hypocrisy ) . For me People who are involve in marriage fraud have zero moral. ( they are husband wife TEMPORARY for the immigration benefits.

Thanks again
