Dear Qorax & Seniors,

While landing, can the funds be in dirhams...?. I mean to say If I am travelling from Dubai and carrying dirhams to Canada and my stay is short in canada ( for 1 week & return back), will it be Ok..?

OR do I need convert Dirhams into CA $...?

The reason (I want to keep in Dirhams currency) is when I am coming back, I don't need exchange for CA $ and thereby avoiding the Exchange Loss due to conversion..

Please suggest at earliest...

Cool

I would strongly advise to take Canadian dollars as proof of fund as per CIC requirement depending on your number of family members. Try to avoid any hassle at landing...

And conversion is not too much...

convert it into Canadian dollars and bring Cad $ with you. other currencies are not acceptable..... if the officer at airport ask you to show POF cash you have to show CAD, USD, Euro only.

you can bring any currency (dirhams) as long as you do not go below the minimum amount stated in your application. but be sure that u have a little amount of CAD for your use upon landing (for hotel, taxi, foods)

Hi niwrrehs,

Thanks for the reply.

Are you sure that we can taken any currency ( not only CA $)....?

If that is the case, it would be better and no need to bear the loss for exchange.

it's depend on officer at desk, generaly officer ask you that you have required POF? but if he/she asked you to show POF, then you have to show POF, my advice is better to get Bank draft of those amount. bring some cash which helps you for initial stay and open bank account get encashed your Bank DD

thank you which means some might not ask for POF

You can't guess!!! my 2 cousins entered in Toronto on same day togather with family on PR visa, officer on desk asked to show POF to one cousin, my cousin have cash and DD officer just look on DD and count few cash return it back in some seconds, he dont ask to another cousin for POF just he confirmed that do you have POF DD or Cash? he replied some cash and DD, officer replied its OK. so, don't guess about POF might be you will in trouble if you bring less amount or if you dont bring those required POF.

It is a regulation of IRPA, vide ENF4. The BSO@POE has a duty to check your 'landing funds' as part of your 'record of landing'... and 'deny entry' if u r found lacking.

S/he may or may not Xcheck... but, landing w/our sufficient funds is sure a dangerous act.

U can bring-in as much funds as u desire/deem fit, but not lesser than the CIC requirement. And the format of which could be Cash, Drafts, Prearranged Bank Transfer, or a 'Canadian' Bank Statement... either in one form, or in multiples. The amounts in each could be anything.

-The wise practice is the "80-20 rule". 80% in Draft/s - 20% in Cash.
-International rules advice travellers to declare their funds@a POE, which is either/or over $10K.
-U'd receive a 'disembarkation form'@the flight, the declaration/s r to be noted on it.
-Bringing over $10K in cash is OK, but the declaration is a must.
-If the funds r huge (say $70-100K++), 'proof of source' might be asked (an anti-money-laundering feature).

@ Quorax,
1.
Can you explain better what you mean by a prearranged bank transfer? what would IO at POE accept as a prearranged banker transfer.

2. I have a dollar domicilary account with visa debit card cashable at any ATM machine worldwide. Can i come with it together with its statements to show at POE, would these be acceptable. Can i have 80% of family of 4 in my domiciliary dollar account card and 20% as cash when landing?

1. U have to 'open' a Canadian Bank A/c from abroad (eg. Scotiabank's overseas prearrangement)
2. No, a Debit Card with a foreign bank (with a USD A/c) will not work.
