My NOC is 1111. Is Ielts compulsory to be submitted to CIC. Help.

I received an email from Centralized Intake Office, named "Application for Permanent Residence in Canada (PNP)", with the receipt of the application fee, and medical exam form and instructions.
I have a question though:

What are "first stage approval" and "approved in principle"?

We need these to be able to bridge open work permit. Am I not first stage approved yet? :

My application was received on 21st Mar.. but till date I've not received any response. Can anyone tell me how the response will come.. either email or through courier?? Second, did anyone received the response yet?? Please share your views.

I received a response via email. Two emails, one with the acknowledgement receipt and the other with the medical exam form. For me, it took about 40 days, from the day they received my package to the day that I received their email.
