Hi,

I am currently residing in Netherlands for last 3 years. I have got a job offer from March 2013 in Alberta Canada initially for a year and then would be extended 2 more years. My wife is with me almost a year here. We are planning to apply for work permit and Visa probably in end of September. We are bangladeshi citizen. I have some question regarding visa. My wife is almost 2 months pregnant and we are expecting to born our baby somewhere end of March.

i) Would it be needed for us undergo medical examination for visa as we are living in Netherlands almost a year?
ii) Would pregnancy of wife delay her visa?
iii) Would embassy ask her to apply her visa after baby is born?
iv) As my job start from March and we will be under health coverage under the employer from March, Can we go to Canada around December/January as she will be almost in the time of delivery in March and may be then take a private insurance for January and February and then switch health coverage by the employer?

It would be very nice if anyone can answer my questions please. Thank you very much in advance.

Hallo Guys,

I can only answer one question.

No private insurance will cover costs related to pregnancy and the delivery. If you come before you have health care coverage from your employer, expect to pay for any costs related to the pregnancy and delivery out of your own pocket.

Hi Scylla,

Thank you very much your comment. I really apprciate it. For others, if you have information regarding my other questions please reply. Thank you very much.

Cheers,

1. Find out if you need medicals here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/dcl.asp
2. If a medical is required, your wife can choose to undergo the physical exam and blood tests now and defer the X-ray until after the baby is born. Or she can choose to have a protective lead apron over her belly. Ask the DMP whether it is likely to delay visa issuance.
3. If your wife decides to do the X-ray after delivery, they may wait until her results are received.

Dear SenoritaBella,

Thanks a lot for the information. This will really help a lot. As we are living in Netherlands more than a year although we are from Bangladesh, it seems that she doesn’t need medical examination.

I have almost gotten all the answers of my questions. Many many thanks to SenoritaBella and Scylla. My last question is...... (sorry it is elaborate)

I have a job (post doctoral job, work permit needed but LMO not needed) from March 2013, so I have to apply for visa from March as per my job contract. But at mid of March we are expecting our baby. Therefore, we would like to go to Canada end of December or beginning of January. Is there any way to go to Canada before my job start? What kind of visa applications then I have to apply? We want to spend our own money for living and health coverage for January and February. Could you please write you valuable suggestions regarding this? May I ask my employer to send kind of invitation for these 2 months?

I am sorry to bother you guys. But I am tens.... would be very helpful to get some suggestions from you. Thank you very much.

Cheers,
Sopnil

It's up to you if you want to ask the employer, but what reason will they give for wanting you in Canada 2 - 3 months before your job starts? Check www.cic.gc.ca for more information on type of visas.

The other option is to ask your employer whether you can start a few weeks late so as to be there when your wife has the baby. Then you can apply for a TRV for the baby too. Note that without insurance, a regular delivery can cost up to $10,000 CAD or more if there are complications.
