Hi,

I am Joy from Nigeria. A graduate of English Studies from a university in Nigeria, with GPA of 3.12. I recently applied for study Permit to Canada. I was refused based on:

" you have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay, in reaching this decision, I concidered several factors, including:
1. your travel history,
2. length of proposed stay in Canada
3. purpose of visit
4. current employment situation'
your personal assets and financial status.

Though I have come to realize I didn't choose a right course, I got admission into The Art Institute of Vancouver to study diploma in Fashion Design, and it isn"t related to my undergraduate degree. But I am a little confused , they mention my employment status, and I didn't have personal assets, my dad happens to be my sponsor, he wrote a letter to state he was sponsoring me through out my stay in Canada, he provided his bank statement, his personal assets and all certificates. concerning my employment status, I graduated 2012, did my NYSC from 2012-2013, immediately I got out, I took up employment in my dads accounting firm as a secretary, there's no way I would have my personal assets.

I need advise on my second application. When writing my SOP, do I need to include my previous refusal reasons, and explain to the visa officer my dad is my sponsor or do I just go ahead and write my SOP without referring back to the reasons why I was refused

I would appreciate your sincere advice.

Thank You!!

Several of the refusal reasons (including current employment situation) indicate that CIC feels you do not have strong ties to your home country and they are concerned you aren't a genuine student. When you write your SOP, you should explain you course selection and explain how this course will help you once you return back to Nigeria to work. If possible, you should also provide additional evidence of ties to your home country in your next application.

Just to add - I would seriously consider changing your course of study to something that is related to your degree or work experience.

Dear Scylla ,

Can you please tell that how to justify the change in course during second application ?

Thanks ! :)

Sorry - I don't know. I've never written a SOP.

Thanks so much for your contributions. But, is there really a need to justify a change in course during the second application. Can I just go ahead to explain to the Visa Officer why I choose to study this particular course for my new application?
