Dear Seniors,

Would appreciate your response on my questions below:


Because of this ban on my category I am not eligible to apply for PR at the moment, but hoping that they do re-open as promised by Oct'2014.

I have a few questions:- My OWP expires in August 2015. If by chance I find a new job under a qualifying category within a month or two then I will finish my one year of work before my OWP expires and I stand a good chance to apply for my PR. In case it takes longer and my one year of work experience finishes after my OWP has expired. Do I stand a chance to get an extension on my OWP? And if so how long will the duration be?

Have heard that BOWP are given only if you have applied for your PR or have received an AOR.

I haven't visited my homecountry for 2 years now. While I am on this temporary job( they have given me an extension until Oct"14) Do you think I will be able to go out of canada for 2 weeks and get a re-entry ?

Your answers on the above will be highly appreciated.

your WP expires in August 2015 - that's 17 months away from now. Don't you think you will be able to manage an acceptable NOC under CEC by then?

Yes BOWP is the current trend and life savior. You apply for BOWP when you have the AOR + you have around 4 months left on your WP. I believe BOWP gives one year extension.

You can visit your home country of course. But make sure you have a valid visa - because you want to re-enter Canada. Don't you? If you have a visa already, all you need is your valid WP.

One thing to remember is 'the promise of re-opening' those NOC, may never come true. So it will be a better decision to change jobs to a NOC 0/A/B that is acceptable. They will only re-open those, if they see a shortage of workers on those categories.

This is a dangerous assumption to make. No promise has been made by CIC that the "banned" categories will be accepted as of October 2014. This change may be permanent. If you want to apply for PR through CEC then you should be looking for a different job.
 
Thank you so much imroth and scylla.

I am waiting for my passport to come back with the workvisa stamped on it , presuming the validity would be same as my work permit. Do you think I could travel on the work visa document to my home country and allowed re-entry.

Your visa will have to have a clause "Entry: M". Here M means multiple that mean you enter and exit Canada many times.

Last time I saw they gave 2andhalf yr visa, even though WP had 3 yrs.

After you receive the passport, let us know what you have. Then we can confirm if you can visit home or not.

But generally the answer is Yes, you can go home and enter Canada when you come back.
