Dear friends, I need your support on one issue. I am aeronautical engineer and last month I have received one job offer from Montreal and get the visa accordingly. Currently, I have a W1 visa for 3 years. But the situation is, several problems occured and seems that I am not going to work for that company. My question is, is my visa applicable for any company in Montreal and can I work for another company with this visa. My wife also received her visa with work permit, so same situation is applicable for her. Thanks for your help!

You very likely have a closed work permit (closed work permits are tied to a specific employer). If you have a closed work permit and want to work for another company, you'll need a brand new work permit.

How was the work permit obtained? Did the employer need to obtain an approved labour market opinion in order for you to qualify for the work permit? Does the company's name/address appear on the work permit?

Hi scylla,
Thanks a lot for your quick response..
Yes, possibly mine is closed one, because employer sent me one approved paperwork of labour market opinion, and I applied the visa together with them.. Actually, I do not know whether the name/address of the company appears on the work permit or not, because I have not gone to Canada yet, I just received my visa, it is written W1 – worker visa, for 3 years, but possibly when I go to Canada, they will provide another paper for work permit? So, if we consider that mine is closed one, what should I do to get a brand new work permit? Apparently, I am not allowed to come to Canada and work for another company with this visa?

My wife also engineer, and she also received same visa for herself, she has no job offer currently but she received due to my visa, probably her visa should be open one? Do you think so?

Thank you very much..
