Hi! My husband (American) and I (Danish) are currently in Vancouver till Nov 15th. We can not work or study while we are here. My husband are skilled to apply for a skilled work permit. He just needs a job. I would like to be able to take 1 year course on a private beauty school and work part time. We know we probably have to apply at the port of entry, so make a trip over the border to the US and back. What is your advice to us? My husband is currently looking for a company in Vancouver who will hire him.

If your husband can't get a job offer, another option for you would be to try to get a study permit. You have to make sure that the school you find meets the requirements, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/schools.asp

If you manage that, your husband could apply for an open spouse work permit as the spouse of a student, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-spouse.asp

You could apply for a part time work permit after 6 months of your studies.

The open work permit will allow him to find a job more easily and once he has a job, his employer can sponsor him for PR under the BC provincial nominee program or give him a job offer to apply for your PR under the skilled worker program.
