My partner is a UK citizen has received a positive LMO and a skilled workers visa in Vancouver. He has recently relocated to Vancouver and I wish to apply for an open work permit as his common law partner.
I am an Irish citizen living in the UK and I am trying to determine whether to apply prior to my arrival or on arrival to Vancouver.
If I apply prior to my arrival (in the UK) the processing time is 8 -10 weeks however it is more then likely that I will be called for an interview. Does anyone know if both partners are called to interview or will it just be myself? Obviously my partner is unable to attend an interview in the UK!
I can travel to Canada and gain entry as a visitor as long as I satisfy the border that I will leave within 6months. I can then apply from within Vancouver - does anyone know the time scales from within Canada? Again attached to this scenario will both partners be called for interview or just myself?
Finally my partner was told to declare his common law partner on entry, at the border he was told that they do not deal with that and for him to go to the immigration / embassy office in Vancouver and to declare this then. When he arrived at the office it was closed! Does anyone know why the office is closed?!
