Hello, I hope you can help me.
I am a 42 year old joiner with a city and guilds qualification, I qualified over 20 years ago. I have always worked as a joiner and i have travelled throughout the uk and Norway doing this. My wife is a qualified dental nurse who is currently studying to get a degree in complementary healthcare, but has a further 2 years of study. I'm sure she won't mine me saying that she is 30 yrs old.
We have 5 children, our oldest has kabuki syndrome, she is statemented as she has learning difficulties and is seen by speech and language and also occupational therapy as she has low muscle tone, however she has no other medical problems.
Our third daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate. She has had her lip repaired and her palate temporarily repaired but this will need bone graft when she is about 12 years old (she is now 3 years old).
We are wanting to emigrate to Canada, specifically Alberta.
I have contacted numerous agencies but none will give me the info I need unless they are paid to process our application.I have also looked online but am coming up empty.
What I want to know is:
1. Will my qualification be valid in Alberta? Or will I have to do a skills test?
2. Will our children's medical problems be much of an issue?
3.how realistic is it to actually get a job once we are over there?
4. What is involved in the immigration process and how long does it take?
5. I have herd that British immigrants are looked down upon, is this true?
Any other information would be more than welcome.
Thankyou
David

Hi david,

1.im not aware of it but best thing in ur case would b....wife as primary applicant.

2.im sorry to kw abt ur children's health conditions. There is a high possibility that ur first mentioned child might hv difficulty in clearing meds.

Reg 2nd mentioned child, i need to kw at wht age of child surgery was done.hw is her/his speech and hw old is s/he.
bone grafting wil b done at 12 yrs of age, only after reasssesing the defect in palate, sometimes the defect closes automatically as child's palate bone grows and this defect sdnt cause any problem.

3.ur wife will get job sooner or later and abt urs i dont hv any idea.

4.reg immi. Process time frame one cant predict exactly,if all submitted documents r immpressive and ur noc in high demand list then process might b completed in less than a yr.

5.honestly i dont hv idea but IMHO u sdnt worry abt this.

Wish u good luck.

Hi thanks for the replies our daughter with the cleft was 3 months when she had the trachy in and 18months when it was removed she is pretty much discharged from the airways cli iv now tho. She was 4 months old when she had her lip repair and was 6 months when she had her palate temporarily repaired it is a wide cleft and the surgeon has said she will Deffinately need the bone graft. Her speach is delayed and is nasal sounding with some words but not all words. She also has problems forming some words and sounds. She is currently 3 years old.
We have spoken to a few immigration experts who have said we need to start the applicat ion now as it could take 2 years minimum to complete, Howe er my wife will not have finished her degree until another 3 years and we are concerned that if the application is approved then there will be a certain time frame by which we have to move over and this may coincide with my wife's course.
I have looked on the alberta governments website and it states my occupation is voluntary registered but I. Lukd take the skills exams in that state if I anted to however oak not sure if it would help me when looking for work or whether I will be wasting my money as they are not a must have.
Thankyou for your help

Hi again david,

Reg speech dev of ur daughter, i dont see any concern for clearing meds.i presume from ur description that her milestones might hv been slightly delayed but this sdnt also cause any interference with meds.

Ur second concern abt wife's course completion i guess seniors like qorax, kanamen, saki etc etc can answer.i kw that one can come back after initial landing but im not sure abt time frame.pls check with any senior.

I dont hv any idea abt ur field of work, sorry i cant comment.hopefully someone will help u out.

IMHO, U sdnt giveup, u sd find ways out for urself as ur wife has future.

Good luck.

Rgds,
Art.
