please help me my father died yesterday early morning in toronto, canada. im a sri lankan at present working in Sultanate of Oman. i want to attend the funeral pls help me pls

I'm very sorry to hear about your father.

You will need to apply for a visitor visa in order to come to Canada. The forms and instructions are here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-how.asp

Unfortunately the visa offices are on strike right now and visa processing is slow. It will likely take a few weeks to process your application.

thanks for your reply sir. so what is the solution sir then how i can attend the funeral? pls guide me sir sorry to distrub you

If you want to come to Canada, then you must get a visitor visa. There is no other way.

This brings up an interesting question: Shouldn't there be an "emergency visitor visa"? The requirements for this can be similar to the normal visitor visa, in addition, the person applying for this can prove that they need the emergency visitor visa for something like attending funeral, visiting an immediate family member who is in a hospital, etc. The CIC can even charge that higher processing price, but at least it would give people the opportunity to not miss an important family related event.

I know there is strike going on right now. But even before the strike started, TRV takes too long and there is no "emergency" processing service.

I'm sure this can go in CIC's "suggestion box".

Sorry for your loss vuharan - I'm sure he's in a better place now.
