Hello all,

I have done a significant amount of reading and developing my visa application for a Canadian Study Permit. I intend to apply in May 2018 for a September 2018 intake. I understand the text below is quite lengthy but I really hope I can get some insights from people here who know the process quite well. I have highlighted the text in bold where I seek help.

Profile:
  • 31 years old, Single
  • 1st Class in Bachelors for Electronics Engineering from University of Leicester, UK (2011 graduate)
  • Waiting for an admit to McGill, Ottawa, Waterloo, Queens for a Masters in Electronics Engineering with a specialization in Computer Vision. I am posting this under the assumption I will be admitted to one of these schools.
  • IELTS, test on 3rd March. However, all above schools exempted me due to my time in England.
6 years of work experience as an Electronics Design Engineer at my father's company (from 2011), a significant portion of which is related to the specialization I seek. Infact, I am seeking this specialization because this work experience convinced me this is the way forward.

Total cost for program will be CAD 50000 over 2 years.

Funds:
2 bank accounts:
  1. As I live with my parents and have no dependents, I am able to save 100% of my salary. I have saved up CAD30000 over the years. Therefore, I am able to sponsor one year of my degree.
  2. 2nd bank account is in USD. My father is transferring CAD30000 in this account I will wire 1st years tuition from this account.
Both above accounts in my name. I will demonstrate using documents that the CAD30000 came from my father's account. Father will also provide an affidavit. These funds cover my entire 2 years.

This is perhaps the weakest area of my application.
  1. I am concerned that the VO will consider the fact that I am utilizing my salary account / savings as a potential reason I am not a bona fide student. Truthfully, I simply don't have any other use for this money so I'm using it for a worthy cause.
  2. The CAD30000 that my father will be transferring is from a property sale. The money has been in his account since Mid-January 2018. Do I need to show what the source of this money or is it enough that my father is transferring it to me and providing an affidavit? In addition, I will show a paper trial that demonstrates the CAD30000 in my USD account were these exact funds.
  3. In my SOP, I write that I intend to study Computer Vision / Electronics Engineering so I can take the Quality Control division of the company forward. Will the VO question the fact that even though there is benefit to the company, why are they not sponsoring my education? My explanation for this is that my father, though the majority shareholder, is not the only shareholder in the company.
Ties to Country:
  1. Job offer from the company I am employed in. Admittedly, a failing company that's run my an applicant's father will easily provide this. To counter this, I am providing the company's income tax statements, for the past 3 years, to demonstrate that the company is in good health.
  2. I demonstrate how I will be able to improve the business (in Quality Control) when I return. I wish I could provide some documentary evidence of this.
  3. I have shares in the company, not significant at the moment but my father will make me majority shareholder once I return. My father will provide an affidavit and my current shareholdings will be proven through official government documents.
  4. 2 properties under my name worth $200k. 3 properties under my father's name worth above $700k
Being 31 and seeking a Masters is probably unusual. However, I felt I needed to work and gain experience as an engineer to find out what specialization would be beneficial to me.

Travel History:
  1. Studied and lived in the UK for 3 years (2008 to 2011). I was initially denied visa in 2008 but applied again successfully two weeks after the first denial.
  2. Business trip to China in 2014
  3. Two Business trips to Thailand in 2016
  4. Three trips to Dubai but my guess they don't amount to much in the VO's eyes.
