I am planning to apply for student visa in Toronto, should I mention that I overstayed in UK visit visa? I changed my passport after that, should I hide or mention the travel history ? what are the pros and cons of hiding or showing the info? I am from India.

what do u mean changed ur passport? even if u renewed ur passport u still need to carry the old one with u at all times. Never hide anything ...think long term this hiding can be caught at anytime(during PGWP, OCWP,PR,Citizenship process). u may get study visa but if ur caught later on then u could lose ur citizenship too so why take a chance. U may lose in the long run .

changed passport means, my address was changed so now I have a new one.
So I should mention my overstay, but wont this lead to denial for study permit ?

Were you "removed" from the UK or did you leave without anyone knowing that you overstayed?

Thanks for your time, I moved out on my own, not removed or deported or any other criminal offense.

u should always carry cancelled passports with u. Yes chances of denial are high but not disclosing hiding passport can create trouble later. U did overstay so u need to be responsible for ur actions. There is a slight chance u may get a visa and then u will be in the clear and dont have to worry later.

The main worry is I know some guys who also overstayed in Australia and USA
1 guy mentioned his overstay and he got rejected.
2nd guy didnt mentioned anything, he got study permit.
So I am confused.

The rule for Canada Immigration is that if you lie OR don't provide information that could affect an application, you are committing the offence of "misrepresentation". This will lead, if caught, to a two year ban, soon to be increased to 5 years. Your choice.....

Do they check all the background ? if yes then how some of the people who overstay and dont mention in the form get the visa ?

They got lucky? It could easily come back on them later... Nobody except CIC knows exactly who they check, why or how thoroughly.

Just write the dates... No reason to elaborate at this point...

thank you, if I write just the dates wont they ask for additional docs or old passport to see the validity period of visa ?

I can't answer that. Does it ask for them on the application form or guide? If not, then probably, no.
