Any clarification would help. My wife (Canadian Citizen) and I (American Citizen) entered Canada March 13, 2020. Shortly thereafter the border was closed due to the pandemic. We had planned to do an outland application. But, being stuck in Canada and living with her family, we decided to do an inland application. I have been getting the Inland application together and am about to submit it. I applied for a Visitor Record on September 12, 2020. By my calculation, I submitted it on the six month mark exactly. Albeit at 184 days.

Question 1-Is the allowance that Americans can visit Canada for six months based on calendar months or 180 days?

Question 2-I read somewhere (although I cannot remember where, not an official site) that a Visitor Record must be submitted the day before the six month mark (i.e. 5 months and 29 days). Is there any truth to this?

With this uncertainty, I have been considering submitting an application for Restoration of Status. We are allowed to submit the Restoration of Status until December 31, 2020.

Question 3-If there is nothing wrong with my Visitor Record Application, will submitting an application for Restoration of Status in any way mess up my Visitor Record application?

Question 4- If there is something wrong with my Visitor Record Application will submitting a Restoration of Status provide a potential avenue to get my status above board?

Thank you so much for any assistance you can provide!

1. It's six calendar months.
2. The visitor record application must be RECEIVED by IRCC before your six months is up. How did you apply? If you applied online, then you should be fine. If by mail, then you applied too late.
3. There shouldn't be an issue.
4. Yes.

Online. I actually submitted it on the 11th but the email indicated it would be treated as if it had been received on the 12th (exactly the six month mark).

thank you so much for you help. I have two follow up questions.

1-If I submit my application for restoration of status and the visitor record is rejected will that existing application to restore status carry on or would I need to resubmit?
2-Proof of funds is a component of both. We have no fixed expenses living with family. And I still have savings albeit a good deal less than when I submitted the Visitor Record application. Will submitting the Restoration of Status application with the lesser funds hurt my Visitor Record Appication sice I assume they will be linked as I am submitting both online?
Thank you for your help!
