Hello everyone.

I've been lurking around these forums here for quite a while now, as it seems to come up on a lot of Google searches on a lot of topics.
Like many here, I have a girlfriend in the Philippines, that I've only met online, and I would like to bring her here to Canada. Searching online has been a roller coaster of hope, fear, disappointment and despair.

I was considering a TRV for my girlfriend, but it's looking like that will be very difficult, as she doesn't make a lot of money, is a live in caregiver, doesn't own a home, etc.

She does send money to her family in province every pay, however, and she does have immediate family there. I'm interested in helping her save money in a bank account as well.

She is currently working on getting all her papers and her passport as well.

My situation, is that I do alright financially but I'm not in a position to be able to just drop money on plane fare on a dime either, but i'm putting money away as well.

I'm hoping that someone might be able to reassure me that there is even a remote possibility that she could get a TRV to come and see me. However I'm not counting on that.

I am thinking of applying for her Visa around November, which gives me enough time to put money away for airfare, and to help get some money into her bank account, without a sudden surge of funds. I would ideally like to be able to marry her in country, and then apply to be a sponsor for her. I know that her situation is going to make this very unlikely and I've accepted that, but will try anyway.

Barring that, I am planning on making two visits to the Philippines, the first one will be to meet her in person, and meet her parents so I can formally ask them to marry their daughter. And to meet the rest of her family. The next trip would be to have the ceremony, and to spend our newly wed time together, then apply for her spousal sponsorship.

I'm wondering if it will be easier to have her get a visitor visa after we are married, so she can come to visit me. I would like to sponsor her inland, so that we can be together. I'm not concerned with her not being able to work, as I'm willing to take care of her, and in any case, would send a notarized letter of invite stating that I would be taking care of her lodging and expenses for the duration of her stay. Would it be better to apply for her visitors visa and then sponsor her inland? Is that even possible given her situation?

No one here can tell you whether her TRV will be approved or not. However you should expect it will be more difficult to get a TRV once you are married. If she can get a TRV and come here - you can certainly sponsor her inland.

Thank you,

Proving her ties to the Philippines I think will be more difficult. Either way, that's the route we're trying first. Hopefully it will go smoothly. Being apart from someone you care about so much is tough.

Use the tool http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/getting-started.asp

When you finish the tool will tell you where and how to apply.

One thing for certain it is much easier for you to go and live with her than her to come and live with you. We are looking at 2-3 years of paperwork, so be prepared.
