Planning a Move

I am currently planning a move to Canada with my wife of 8 months.

I have read plenty of information on this site aswell as in many others. All very good advice and information.

Having done this research, I've come to the conclusion that its a very real opportunity for me, as I can qualify as a skilled worker (Electronical Engineering Degree from one of Mexico's most prestigious Universities, and 3+ years experience in engineering fields). The thing that mostly discourages me is the waiting period.

Let's for a minute assume that I just wing it, and travel to Canada on a tourist visa---and stay there. I wouldn't mind working in any field, and learning anything. This is mainly a move based on wanting to have a better quality of life and not necesarily "making more money".

What are the risks involved? Pluses and Cons? This would be very useful information in me making an important decision.

Actually the waiting time for Mexico is not too long compared with other countries, so the waiting time worth it,

I am from Mexico and my process took 26 Months, I applied as Skilled worker by the way

If you do not want to wait that long, so try applying as provincial nominee, I think it is faster.


I do not think you can get job if you come as visitor. (legally speaking of course)

How would I apply as a provincial nominee? Is this the same as aplying for a temporary work visa?

I've heard that if I take that route the waiting time is much less, plus I could always change my status to a permanent resident later. How true is this?
