I'm having a hard time finding a photographer who can get me a photo in these dimensions. However, I know people who can take professional-quality headshots at home, then I could just print them out and home and cut them to size. (I also don't want to pay a studio a bunch of money for something that I could do myself.)

Other people seem to have done this, but I don't remember seeing any follow up on them, if they've been rejected or delayed or something. Is the "professional photography studio" requirement non-negotiable? Can I just do this at home? What should I write on the back?

As per the IRCC website, your permanent residence photo must be taken by a Commerical Photographer and cannot be taken by yourself or a non commerical photographer. Search on Google Permanent Residence Photo requirements and print that off and take with you to a photographer and they should be able to accommodate you.

That is partially incorrect. The photographer can write it by hand.

"The photographer may use a stamp or handwrite this information. Stick-on labels are unacceptable." That's from http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-photos.asp

I remember the person who did took the photos themselves, if it's who I'm thinking of. They couldn't find anyone within a reasonable distance in the U.S. willing to do them. I haven't seen any posts from them saying it got rejected. They did get their COPR. They may run into problems when it comes to the PR card. Even though I had mine taken in Canada from a reputable place that does know the requirements, we got a letter last week saying that we need new photos again for my daughter's card.

11. It wasn't that they needed more, just that the ones that we included with the PPR stuff for her weren't to their satisfaction (ultimately). My card arrived in the mail today.

50 days, which doesn't seem unreasonable given the Easter holiday that fell within that time period. :)
