The more I try to understand the photos, the more confused I get...

I went to Costco to have pictures taken to simplify things, and I thought I could scan those for the online CIC application for permanent residence.

But now I'm confused as to if that would work. Is there some kind of online app someone could share where we could do it ourselves and save in a digital format? The pictures that you need to have done by a photographer and signed on the back come later...for the physical PR card, correct?

Can someone explain to me the difference between the CIC application photo and the ones you get taken/signed/dated by a professional?

If it's for online PR application just take it with your mobile, use an app or crop it yourself and upload it.
The stricter requirements are for the CoPR.

The ones need to be signed on the back are for COPR and PR card, not the application.

The digital photo for the application, you can either do it yourself or go to a professional and ask them to directly provide you with a digital copy.
