Good day,

I received an email in regards to prepare for second round of PGWP Extension and they told me to renew my passport. I went to my country's embassy but unfortunately the person working there told me that I was not able to renew my passport because my PGWP has expired and they cannot assist me if I don't have a valid document claiming my stay in Canada. Is there something that I can do?

I applied on the 15th of August and I did not receive any email in regards to IRCC mentioning that I would be able to work, do I have to wait till September 14th to receive news?

Hope to receive guidance because I am utterly lost, thankyou in advance.

Hey I was in the same boat as you. Can you confirm your jurisdiction? I stay in Winnipeg and Toronto Office is my jurisdiction. What I did was
1) Filled an online form
2) Annexure E form
3) Expired work permit photocopy
4) PGWP extension application
5) The bill for PGWP extension($155)
6) Your original passport
7) Demand Draft of $103.40(NORMAL) or $300(TATKAAL)
8) The e-mail from IRCC that mentions that you can work with expired permit
9) $100 for postal application pickup and drop from Purolator. You can call the customer care to get the payment link or you can do this online.

This is the only way to apply for passport renewal if your permit has already expired. Through POST.

I tried talking to an Indonesian embassy that is in Toronto and they have not allowed me to renew my passport. I have this sent to me by IRCC Screenshot, does this mean later on if I am able to update my passport after receiving the PGWP extension from IRCC then I will be able to re-apply in order to qualify for the full additional 18 months?
The guy who I was speaking to at the embassy mentioned that "it is recommended" but its not a must and since I don't have a valid legal document for my reason to stay in Canada the embassy is not able to assist me in anything :\

I applied through Indian embassy from Winnipeg but my jurisdiction is in Toronto. I am not sure about the 18 months validity. I'm in the same boat as you. I hope I get my passport soon before I get my PGWP extension.
You could try speaking to the customer care or in person and let them know that it is ok to submit the new application receipt and other supporting documents like the letter from IRCC that allows you to work with expired permit.
They have to understand that this rule is new and they also have to adapt to the current situation.

I will try again going to my jurisdiction in Toronto I guess, the person there was very stubborn so I honestly don't know what to do. Do I just show him that I applied already and received that email? I tried reaching out to IRCC on the phone but it was impossible for me to get through and to ask them myself.

How much validity do you have left in your passport? You can still apply with the current passport and get a work permit till the current passport validity. Once you get the new work permit, you can apply to renew your passport.
