Hi,

I am in a bit of a situation here and would appreciate any information.

I failed a course in my final semester (Dec 2021) and was dismissed from my program (Jan 2022). As that course is offered only during the Fall, the only option I had was to take in Fall 2023, but after a lot of discussions, the school agreed to allow me to take the course this fall, reducing the probation period.

However, to apply for PGWP later, I should be enrolled in a program continuously and not take a leave from studies for more than 150 days. But with my case, I might be away from studies for say, 250 days.

1. Do I have any possibility of getting my PGWP approved if I go back to my home country for a couple of months before starting this course? Or any way at all?
2. If not, do you guys know any other alternatives?
3. My study permit is valid till Dec 31, 2022. But I understand that dismissal would make my permit invalid immediately. Now that I have a new readmission offer, will my student status be valid again?

Thank you.

Failing a course doesn’t usually lead to a year ban from the school (academic suspension). Was there more going on than one failed course?

Then why would you have had to take the course in 2023 but you negotiated taking it in Fall .2022

Because dismissal is one year (Jan 2022 - Jan 2023) and this course is offered only in the fall, which means I can take only in Fall 2023. They now reduced my probation period to 8 months allowing me to take the course this fall.

How are you in good standing but also on probation? Very unusual to have a 1 year ban from a school for failing one course.

Did you failed the course only because of the grade you've got (bad homework, bad exam results..etc) or did you failed it because of other mis-conduct?

Agree that it's very unusal to get probation for 1 year/8 months because of 1 academic course's grade.

Honestly, I don't see the need for me to provide false information here, that too, this is anonymous. I have a good standing and have never got a grade below B. And this is the first course I failed and yes, they dismissed me for that. I don't expect you to believe me, but if you do, please try to respond to my queries above. Thanks.

Because of the grade.

It's a tricky situation. You could have your last semister as part time and so if you can take and finish your last course before your study permit expires, then in thoery, you can apply for PGWP.

But I am not sure if you can work full time in between because those are not officially your term breaks.

Stating that it is highly unusual. Probation and good standing usually don’t go together. I guess all schools have their own systems. Your school is quite strict. Most wouldn’t have banned you for a year for one failed course.
