PGWP, CEC and Passport expiring

Hello,

I was doing some research on PGWP and CEC, and I had a couple of questions I thought I should ask as soon as possible.
I am an international student graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree in May 2014. I have a job offer which I will start in June 2014(I will work under off campus work permit until I get my PGWP). Assuming I get my PGWP in August 2014 (at the latest), I will be able to apply for CEC PR in September 2015.

My passport expires in January 2017. Will that cause me problems since it expires 6 months before the PGWP is ideally supposed to be valid till? Should I renew my passport right now? How should I go about handling this?

You won't have any problem, You would become a PR by October 2016. Your passport is valid still January 2017.

Only thing to consider is, they may grant you 6 months on your PR visa.

And how would I extend that? By applying for a new passport?
