PGWP Application - full-time status

I received a study permit extension refusal on Sep 1, 2023, due to a failure to give a complete education transcript. I am at risk of dropping all courses this term and am out of status and still waiting for IRCC's approval. Dropping Fall courses will affect my application to PGWP in the future since I am no longer a full-time student during the term.

Before attending my current university, I was in a college for two years and transferred. When IRCC requested my education transcript, I sent them only my current university transcript without knowing they needed it all.

I know I will need to include a letter of explanation for my circumstances. I will have to explain why I am dropping all my courses in the Fall term and not maintaining full-time status during the term. I have a legitimate reason, being I am out of status, which makes me drop all my courses and wait for IRCC's approval to restore my status as a student.

Has anyone been in a similar situation as me and got their PGWP approved? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Since you are not studying or working at all and your extension was refused then yes, you are not eligible for a PGWP. You will only know if and when you get a response on your PGWP application. Being out of status is not a legitimate reason because IRCC expects you to file the correct paperwork and read instructions carefully. Hopefully you get your extension approval by January.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Since I am out of status and not a study permit holder, is the full-time status applicable to out-of-status individuals? I have never taken a term off, I am either doing a co-op or studying full-time throughout my time at my university. Thanks!

You are taking a term off if you are out of status. So you are not a full time student. To be elgible for PGWP you must maintain full time status throughout your studies. You need approval from your university to take the semester off and that is usually due to illness, death in family etc. A university doesn’t give approval to take a semester off because your extension wasn’t approved.
