Hello everyone,

MY PGWP expires a month (28 days to be exact) before I complete 1 full year of Canadian Experience with my employer ( which is the end of august 2017) in a NOC A-B. I've heard of people getting special exceptions when providing an explanation letter, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a way I could extend my PGWP for around 6 months so I'm able to complete the full year and get enough points to apply to Express Entry through Canadian Experience Class.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me! All answers are welcome!

Regards,

PGWPs cannot be extended. No special provisions. If you want to continue working, your employer would need to obtain an approved LMIA so that you can apply for a closed work permit. LMIAs can take months to obtain - I would recommend your employer start now.

Sorry - I just realized that your PGWP expires in a month. Unfortunately that's not enough time to get an LMIA approved. You'll need to convert your PGWP to a visitor visa before the PGWP expires and stop working as soon as the PGWP expires. Once you have an approved LMIA, you'll then be able to apply for a new (closed) work permit.

My PGWP expires July this year. I don't know how likely it is that my employer would request LMIA or that they would get a positive one, since I work in marketing.
