Not sad since parents who get selected for PGP are still incredibly lucky even if processing is around 3 years. Canada can’t even care for its existing seniors so any parent being sponsored is very lucky. Although Canada can’t actually absorb them they are still going ahead with PGP but with a smaller yearly quota.
so 2025 it will draw 10k or it will be draw 35k ish but 10k will be selected as PR ?
Not sure where the 35k number come from.
They will draw little over 10k and then they expect that 10k will apply.
The 10k applications will be processed and if the application is approved or not for PR depends on if they meet the requirement.
LICO, pass medical, security, background check.
Likely more like 15k since many insist on having their application processed but don’t meet basic requirements like LICO. The applications selected in 2025 will likely be in line for landing in 2027+ given backlog of applicants and reduced quotas.
Ok, what I meant is, for 2024 the draw is around 35k and IRCC said 20k ish will become PR. So for 2025, I am thinking what will be the total number of the draw and how many will become PR.
Remember we had 2 draws in a year and there is a backlog of applications waiting for processing which is why IRCC was not planning to have a draw in 2025. They likely don’t even need a draw to meet the quotas for 2025 and 2026 because of the backlog. May be able to even make it until 2027. Unclear how many applications will get selected just that it will be at least 10k. It partially depends on why they are doing the draw given that they had announced wasn’t necessary because they wanted to address the backlog 2 months earlier. As already mentioned have a sneaking suspicion this is more politics than anything although just my theory. Also IRCC not always known for logical decisions.
so with this new does it mean they are opening 2025 intake?

I don’t read it as opening it to new profiles (Interest to sponsor). Reads in the instructions but taking from 2024 intake.
Applications received in 2024
These Instructions authorize sponsorship applications received in 2024 and made in relation to applications for a permanent resident visa, which are made by sponsors’ parents or grandparents under the family class, to be accepted for processing in the 2025 calendar year, which begins on January 1, 2025, and ends on December 31, 2025. Applications will be accepted into processing in accordance with the conditions established in the Instructions given on April 12, 2024, for applications received by the Department of Citizenship and Immigration (the Department) in the 2024 calendar year. For clarity, these conditions are reproduced below.
Interests to sponsor
The Department accepted interests to sponsor from persons who wanted to sponsor a parent or grandparent beginning at noon, Eastern Daylight Time, on October 13, 2020, and ending at noon, Eastern Standard Time, on November 3, 2020. The interests to sponsor were to have been completed and submitted to the Department using the electronic means available for this purpose, and if a potential sponsor was unable to submit an interest to sponsor by the electronic means made available by the Department due to a mental or physical disability, the Department made alternate formats available.
Looks like accepting 25k from existing pool. Insane in itself and will just lead to long processing times and an increase in the backlog due to a reduced quota. It will allow the LPC to say they value parent sponsorship which is why they cancelled the pause on draws and are now selecting 25k applications. People will still be mad there is no new EOI but on the surface to people who don’t follow immigration this will be viewed as a good announcement. These elections lead to some pretty wild PGP promises. Assume NDP will promise no quotas like they typically do while CPC and LPC will compete on promises of future spots. Of course they will promise this while also promising to reduce immigration, prioritizing access to healthcare, prioritizing Canadian seniors, cutting gvt and spending, etc. Thank goodness we have a short election cycle unlike the Americans although PCs “campaigned” for at least 4 months before they called an election and that was painful.
