Hi, I am a Canadian permanent Resident since almost 2 years living with my wife and 3 kids ( all permanent residents), I have got a job offer from a Canadian company for a project in the middle east and would like to move with my family there for 2 years time. what are consequences and what shall we do to keep the permanent residence/ apply for citizenship when we meet the residency requirement? Are there any restrictions for this issue? please advise.
thanks

Check this forum, I remember reading about another person who had some issues because he accepted the offer while he was abroad, that is outside of Canada. I guess there shouldn't be problem as regards to residency requirements if you accept the offer when you are working in Canada and then move abroad.

You should expect that the job overseas will NOT count towards your residency obligation. The exemption of RO in working for a Canadian company, is if you're already in a role in Canada with the company and you get transferred on a temporary basis overseas, with the expectation you will return back to Canada after the assignment is done. Accepting a new job outside of Canada, would not qualify for this.

However if it's only for 2 years, then you should be ok since you can spend up to 3 years outside Canada in a 5 year window, and still meet the RO.

Of course the time outside Canada will definitely not count towards your citizenship qualifying.
