Hi all,

I'm the main applicant (male, husband) for my family with a wife and two little kids. We get our PR card just recently. Due to our existing business in home country, we cannot really afford to stay 730 days in Canada anytime soon. I have a few questions that really hope to get help for:

- Does each of 4 members of my family have to stay 730 days to qualify? Or just myself and my wife as adults? Or just myself as the main applicant?
- Does 730 days count start from our first landing date (before PR card even granted) in Canada or just starting from the date of PR card issuance?
Thank you so much!

Cant answer for first one
As for second, it counts from your landing day and it doesn't have to be in sequence it can be any set of days amounting to 730 days in the past 5 years following your landing date .this is when you have to proof your residency during the process of renewing your PR card

For first one, I would think each of you are now PR. So each of you must stay for 730 days in 5 years from landing date to keep your PR status valid. My response is based on below link, where CIC has clarified under what circumstance an individual's foreign stay is counted towards PR. It mentions about how individual, spouse and dependant children can qualify. So I think it is safe to assume CIC expects each member in family to satisfy 730 days condition.

For second question, yiso91 has responded.

Just to confirm.

1) Each family member has to individually maintain compliance with the Residency Obligation requirements.
2) The Residency Obligation starts on the day you "land" as a Permanent Resident. It's unrelated to the dates on PR cards etc.
