Hi. I applied for permanent resident card renewal on October 2014. It was processed in February 2015 and the last correspondence I received from immigration was in February 17, 2015 in which I was asked to submit my travel records during the last 5 years . I have sent all the requirements ( travel records ) requested in May 2015. Since then I have not received any communication. I sent a letter of inquiry on November 2015 but no response nor acknowledgement of receipt was given. I called the immigration office a few times and all times I was told they do not know anything as they can not access my records in their computer. Nothing is changed on my status online, "last letter sent February 17, 2015" and it remains "in process".

Is this normal? Any help, any info or suggestion or similar situation comment is appreciated. Anything to give me an idea of what is happening. Thanks.

Talk to your member of parliament and ask them to inquire about your case. It could help push things. Alternatively in case they lost your file or something, withdraw your application and apply again.

It does not sound normal to me if you call immigration and they say they can not access your files in their computer. If you got an RQ, your file was probably sent to your local office. However. local offices are not accepting walk-ins anymore so likely your file is at the local office, either sitting on a shelf waiting for it's turn, which is possible because some of the local offices are overworked or it may even have fallen behind a filing cabinet which would explain the wait.

In any case, it doesn't look like there is anything happening right now. Therefore my suggestion, either talk to your MP and ask them to push it for you which may get the local office moving or simply withdraw it and apply again, with probably more days in Canada now than you had last time and possibly bypassing an RQ this time and getting your PR card within the normal processing time.

If you want to withdraw it, I would write a letter to the same address that you sent the PR renewal application to. Include copies of your PR card, back and front, so they have the UCI number. Sign the letter as well.
