Can I visit Canada within my COPR expiry date and come back within a week after confirming my residency at a port of entry and providing my relative's address in Canada to get the PR card? How does this process work?

I am assuming that you are referring to short landing. Yes, you can do that and don't tell the officer you are visiting .

The OP should make sure they read up on the goods to follow process to avoid issues when they come back permenently plus for the PR card which should arrive in about 6 weeks ensure their friend is briefed on how the OP wants the card sent to them , mail or courier.
