Dear Fellow members,

Please guide me. Me and my husband along with my 1 year old baby landed in Canada on 20 April 2015 and after getting our PR cards, we left for Home country on 23 June 2015. We plan to go back in April end 2016. Recently, I got to know from someone that Visa officers are not allowing entry to permanent residents who are more than 6 months absent from Canada. Is this Scenario true?

I would request you guys not to quote the residency obligation rather I would like to hear about the visa officer's discretion? Has anyone of you faced this kind of situation.

Pls shed some light on this matter.

Thanks in anticipation.

There is no 6 months rule. "Visa Officers" (CBSA) have no discretion. If you are a PR, you have the RIGHT to enter Canada when you arrive at the border.

True, there was a 6 month rule until 2002. It was changed to 2 out of 5 years that you must stay in Canada so 1 year outside is fine.
