Hi, I have few question regarding PR and outland application. We both are currently residing outside Canada. My wife is sponsoring me. We are applying under the Family Spousal Sponsorship. My questions are below:

1. Once the application for PR has been approved, is there a time limit to enter in the country? if yes, how long?
2. Does PR has an expiry date?
3. Do we both will have to live in Canada after the PR is approved? or Can I (applicant) come and live myself and my wife can join me later on?

I look forward for you help.
Thank you

If your wife isn’t a Canadian citizen (PR only) your application will be refused if she is not applying from and remains in Canada while the application is processing.

  1. The immigration visa usually expires when the medical results expire (1 year).
  2. PR status does not expire. PR cards are good for 5 years.
  3. Each PR is responsible for meeting residency obligation. You and your wife must live in Canada for 2 out of 5 years or face having your PR revoked.

@Buletruck , Thank for your time and reply. She is Canadian citizen. It is really helpful. So once the PR has been approved, would I immediately have to come and live in Canada or is there such thing that if I do not enter the country immediately after the approval, my PR would canceled?

You can enter, do the landing, apply for your PR card and return to your current country of residence if you aren’t ready to make the move. As she is a Canadian citizen, she will need to provide proof she intends to reside in Canada once the application is submitted. However, once completed, there really isn’t a requirement for her to remain in Canada. As you are married to a Canadian, residing overseas with her counts towards your residency obligation. You could, in fact, remain outside of Canada indefinitely as long as you are with her. This only counts for PR status and doesn’t apply for citizenship purposes.
