Hi all, I am applying for permanent residency for common law and have a few questions. I am a US citizen, but applying from Canada.

1) I have tried to call numerous numbers to reach the canadian embassy to ask questions and can not find a number to speak to an actual person. Does anyone have an active number?

2) I am confused about the "police certificate" requirements. In the application it says to provide police certificates from each state you lived in. On the website it talks about an FBI check. I sent the forms in to get an FBI background check and am waiting for the results. Is a police certificate different from the FBI check?

3) Also, what forms of ID are acceptable if I do not have a birth certificate available?

4) My passport has the wrong birth date. My actual birthdate is the 8th, and they screwed up on passport and wrote the 18th. Will that become a problem?

1. You need a police certificate from every country where you have lived for 6 months since the age of 18. For the US you need an FBI fingerprint check. CIC may ask for state certificates, but you don't need them unless they ask.
2. Apply for a copy of your birth certificate.
3. Yes, as there will be a difference between them, get a corrected passport.
