Permanent Residency –> Citizenship???

Anyone have any knowledge or experience with the following?

I have been in Canada the last 4 years and got my PR around aug/sept 2013. I will be able to apply for Canadian citizenship in aug/sept 2015 (2 yrs with permanent residency & time before that).

How do I prove I was in Canada during the 2 yrs if I do not work and have nothing from the tax man??

I have some old t4`s before I got PR but have been unemployed for the last year. I have bills, rent receipts etc. but will that suffice? I have a lot of savings that I am comfortably living off but uncertain if bills and rent receipts and letters from friends etc. will be enough to prove I was in Canada?

Can anyone assist with my concern??

Even if you are not making income, as a PR you are still supposed to fill out tax returns each year with the CRA. With no income you could be eligible for lots of tax rebates, or if you have a partner they can claim you as spousal dependent.

Passport stamps can help to prove you were in Canada.

Also note the citizenship rules may be changing soon, with new requirement of 4 years out of 6 required in Canada, with time only counting after becoming PR.

Generally your case would trigger an RQ and you would need to provide solid proof that you were in Canada. The best way would be things that require your physical presence (like record from OHIP for Drs visits etc). Also, since you are unemployed with do you do with your time? Do you voluenteer? Spend the day gambling at Woodbine? See if these people can provide statements to CIC saying that you were there for X amount of time

Also, a new citizenship bill is coming into effect by the time you will be eligbile to apply for Citizenship which says that you have to live in Canada for 4 out of 6 years before you are eligible to apply for citizenship. If this is in force by Aug/Sep 2015 (and more than likely it will be) you will not be eligible to apply for citizenship until Fall 2017
