Hello,

First of all, please accept my apologies if I do not write in the correct area or if this was already discussed (though I did not found something similar using search)
I have a long relation with an Canadian employer (I worked in Canada with Work Permit in 2004 and 2005) and this year I decided to apply for Permanent Residence (I am not in Canada right now). Following the normal steps, the employer applied for an AEO in February and last week we received positive response to the AEO. So at the beginning of October I will have my file ready and I can apply for Permanent Residence. The employer says that the process to obtain the PR will take more than an year (which I think is normal) and because of some tight projects he currently develops he thinks I should apply for PR in my own country but in the same time he will also start procedures to obtain an Work Permit for me in order to come sooner in Canada.
Is this possible? Did someone else followed this path? Do you think I can get in trouble with my PR application because of the Work Permit. I do understand that coming to Canada sooner on an Work Permit is ONLY temporary and I am fine with this as long as my PR application still continues to be processed and is not negatively influenced by applying to an Work Permit end coming sooner to Canada (if PR can be affected I am thinking maybe is wise to wait until it is processed).

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hello,

I sent this question to Canada Immigration Service from my country. Did not receive an answer yet. Is there any service in Canada where is appropriate to ask this question and I can expect to receive an answer? (by email, preferably)

Thanks,

Hello friend,

You can apply for Permanent Residence before or after you apply for a Work Permit. Canadian law allows you to have the dual intent of applying for a Work Permit and permanent residence simultaneously.

Keep in mind that If a PR application is pending but temporary status expires, then you would be expected to leave the country until the PR status is granted

Hi jamo,

try here if you need to discus with a lawyer on line:

http://www.canadavisa.com/

I also asked this to my consultant..coz i applied to PR first because it has cap..but i am also waiting for an eligibility and so work permit may come if I will be given an eligibility to take the exam in ontario,,

they told me..that if ever Il receive a Per in my PR application..during visa transfer to our local embassy..we will simultaneously apply/lodge the work permit along with the second lodging of our pr visa apps in our local embassy.
