Friends- :-\

I was contemplating and am hesitant to apply as the main applicant because I was in US for a long time and had some negative experiences with my credit and SSN card. While I was there, my bank checks, credit cards, Social sercurity card (basically my whole purse) had gotten stolen and I was informed that a couple of credit cards were applied under my name. I dont know the details and neither did I pull up my credit report and didnt bother much about what was going on as I was leaving US and moving back home.

Now, my question is, do any of you know if the Immigration dept. would research my SSN info or credit info? What impact is such a thing going to have? Any ideas? This is the reason why I didnt want to apply as the main applicant and wanted my husband to apply as the primary applicant, but his job is not listed in the accpetable NOC codes for FSW.

Any suggestions??

Re: Past US credit/SSN history

And yes, I can request a police report detailing the robbery, if this is going to help.

if any such doubtful situation arises, do the immigration officers give the applicants a chance to prove any different? If rejected, are we told the reason for rejection? and do we get an opportunity to submit documentation against it??

Because if such a situation is going to have any negative impact, I would rather not spend the money on application, IELTS test and other procedures and later find out that my case got rejected due to something like this, which could have been avoided initially.

Typically Immigration Canada don't do any credit check because they want to stay fair with applicants all over the world. The problem for your case may arise if one of the potential creditors sued you on your absence and the court issued a judgement that ended up in your police report( unlikely but possible). The first thing I would do is get your fbi police clearance report if that's clean then you are good to apply as primary applicant. You can also defend anything that have happened to your credit file in your absence. Good luck.
