Hello All,

I am happy to say that I Finally received my Passport request the other day!

Naturally I wanted to send passport in ASAP and sent it out Express Mail... What I didn't account for was that it would arrive in New York City on A Saturday morning and that there would be no one there to accept the package *sigh*

I tracked the package today, figuring it should have arrived.... Not so much, it is still at the post office in NYC.
According to the USPS website, anything sent Express mail does not automatically get redelivered... The recipient has to request the next delivery attempt.... and if the package sits there for 5 days then it gets sent back to me....

Yes, I'm stressing! My passport is sitting in a NYC post office... I speculate that Immigration may not go out of their way to check the possible mail at the post office. I already gave my 2 week notice at work, hoping to be set to leave and land before December 1....

Has this happened to anyone else? Please tell me I'm stressing out for no reason.

yes, you need to contact them the soonest. there's no point waiting.

relax, just because its the weekend doesn't mean your passport won't be delivered...it will get there on Monday, business as usual.

I had a tracking# attached to the package I sent and to the preaddessed envelope they will send me... According to the usps website, the package I sent is still at the post office.... Immigration has to call them to get that redelivered... Otherwise I'll get it back in 5 business days to spend more$ to send it back out...

Trust me I called to see about getting it sent back out, but was told as the sender I could not....

I would think that Immigration was someone to make runs to the post office daily if not once a week...

But I'll keep tabs on the tracking# and more than likely I'll get it back next week, in time to deal with the holiday :P

It's hard to relax knowing things are so close to the end...

If you have to do it again, waive the signature requirement. That way, it will be delivered even if there's nobody there to sign for it.

Thanks,

Yeah, that was our next plan of action. I am sure I'll have plenty to keep my mind off of this... I have already started selling the big ticket items anticipating the big landing day.

good luck with your mail! please keep us updated. :)

They told you that you, as the sender, cannot have it sent out again? Sounds like nonsense to me. Call again, ask again, ask for a supervisor if they do not cooperate... Keep calling over and over until someone agrees to work with you. This is important stuff...

Ok Good news!

Seems the usps website may not be updated on a daily basis... My husband checked and it said the package was signed for on Monday (yesterday).

What a sigh of relief!

Thanks for all of the words of encouragement..... sorry for venting a little frustration.... But it's a passport after all, nothing anyone would want to have lost in the mail.

Good luck to those of you still going through the process.... I intend to continue blogging about my entire immigration experience including my trip across Canada in my little Saturn :)

Hopefully others will find the information/experience helpfull.

A Big Thanks again to all how contribute to this forum.

No worries, HB78. Most of us have been through or are going through this stuff, so we know how much tension even the smallest detail can cause. I'm glad to hear these news, though! You're almost there... :)
