Is my PR or work permit based on my passport date. Suppose my passport expires in 2019 (it was for 10 years) and if I get my PR now would I be getting only till 2019?

However if you need a visa in your passport, when you get a new passport in 2019 you should call/email/request CIC to re-issue your PR visa in your new passport
Thank you Gregor. But still I am bit confused. So you mean to say that my visa depends on my passport date? Suppose I get my PR now for 5 years I would be still able to get that till 2021
PR Card expiration date doesnt depend on the expiration of your passport.
Normally PR Card has 5 years validity. and you can renew it if you meet the condition for renewal.

Just need to worry about your passport if you are from a country which need visa, because visa will be issued in your current passport
If your passport expires in 2019 and you have a new one any time I guess (really I don't know) a new visa (no PR Card) can be issued to your new passport, excepts carrying new passport and old passport with visa, plus PR card is OK to come back to Canada.
I'm from a visa waiver country so I don't know how it works, but someone will know it in this forum.
