Passport Expires in July'2013 - Should I apply for Visa on Old passport?

I have taken admission in Sheridan College for Jan'2013 intake for a 2 year program but my Passport will expire in July'2013. Now if I apply for Visa on this passport, I will get the Visa only till my passport is valid i.e. July'2013.
I know that I can renew my passport through Indian embassy in Canada, but this would also mean that I will have to renew my Visa as well right? Does that mean I will have to submit all the documents all over again and go through the same process of Visa application? Is that a risky thing to do? because I really don't have the time to renew my passport and then apply for a visa now.

Can someone please guide me?

If it is within 6 months you've to. Since its JULY you wont get trouble for passport side for stamping visa.
For example if your passport expiry date is within 6 months, even IELTS exam committee wont accept it. if it has more than 6 months of expiry they will..

So Dont worry .. You will get stamped and apply the passport once you reach there as early

@vimalind: Thanks a lot for your reply. But I'm not worried about the passport, I'm worried about renewing my Visa. I'm sure the Visa will only be till July 2013 because that's when my passport expires. But it's a 2 year program I'm going for, which means I will have to apply for a Visa again from within Canada, isn't it?

same is my case. my passport expires in Aug 2013. I have already applied for the study permit for 2 years programe

Yes Bro, You need to renew your passport before expire, Otherwise what ever the valid visa will void it ;D. Also dont forgot to mention when renew new passport that you have valid visa stamped in old passport. So that they will not stamp "Canceled" in your old passport Where ever you are .. whether you are in india or outside 8)

After reaching Canada I will get my passport renewed through Indian Embassy, and I will get a new passport. Now, will I have to apply for Visa once again there? Bro, I told you already.. If you've valid visa in your passport. It will not expire until your passport stamped "Cancelled". Thats why I told you while applying new passport. mention in application that you've valid visa stamped. No need to apply Visa's of your old passport.

FYI. I've my B1/B2 USA visa till 2017. But my passport going to expire 2014 JAN. So while renewing my Passport I will mention to not "Cancel" old passport. So that they will stick the old passport and new passport together. So you could have big bunched passport carring all valid visa together. Got it ? ;D
