I'm desperately seeking some help/ advice on my current issue. I know this topic has probably been posted before, but I'm new to this site so please bear with me. I'll try keep this brief.
I am an Irish citizen and have been living in Canada over 3 years. My current work permit AND passport are both due to expire on February 10, 2014 (2 weeks!!!). I went home to Ireland in December for the Christmas holidays and I had an appointment booked for the day I arrived with the passport office there to renew my passport which would then allow me to apply for an extension on my current work permit when I returned to Canada (btw, I have my WP through the PNP and I currently have an application for PR submitted since April 2013). So unfortunately, my flight was cancelled (of course) and I couldn't fly to Ireland until the following day, so I missed my appointment in the passport office and there was no other available appointments until after the holidays, which was no good as I was leaving Ireland for Canada on January 2nd and needed my passport to fly back.
So when I returned to Canada I requested a Passport application form the Embassy of Ireland in Ottawa, and still havent received it yet. I called them and they advised that it looked like a form was never sent to me. They said they would resend one and I should have it next week. The girl I spoke to took pity on me and told me to courier the application and call her when it was sent and she would try fast track it for me and have it back in 2 weeks.
So now my dilema is that I wont have my passport to apply for my WP extension before my WP expires. I was going to submit a paper application anyway to be eligible for Implied Status so I can still work, but then once I get my new passport I will probably have to apply for Restoration of Status as I will be past my WP expiry date and the paper application wont mean anything then. And I can't really afford to be out of work.
Has anyone ever been in a situation like this or can they offer me any solutions or advice? Does the Restoration of Status take the same length of processing time as a regular extension of WP application (as I believe they are the same application form)?
