If you want to apply for a spouse's visa on a student visa does it matter how long you have been married for? do you need to prove you have a certain amount of money if they intend to work there - if so how much per year?

Whether they intend to work or not is immaterial, you have show $10K for yourself and $4K for the spouse for the first year.
