You can work on campus (for that you don't need work permit) but if you want to work off campus you need to get student work permit.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus.asp

To be eligible for an Off-Campus Work Permit, you must:

- have a valid study permit
- study at a participating institution (for a list of participating institutions in the Off-Campus Work Permit Program, see the Related Links section at the bottom of this page)
- have been a full-time student for at least six of the 12 months preceding the date of your work permit application
- be in satisfactory academic standing (find out more about satisfactory academic standing in the Related Links section at the bottom of this page) and
- sign a form authorizing the institution, the province, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to share your personal information (to confirm that you are continuing to study full time and that you are in satisfactory academic standing)

1. Focus more on house based jobs. Here in Canada, whites are just fond of their gardens. You need to contact them for gardening help usually for 3 hours, once in a week, for 3 hours. Wages 12 to 15 dollars per hour. If you manage to have 4 or 5 families, you can make $ 150 + in a week. Its also safe to work in house.

2. Look for DISHWASHERS job in hotels or restaurants. Its not a skilled based job. There is one machine, you put all stuff at one end and receive from another end. Have one eye on machine and another on hot waitress. Helping Chef in preparing for meals, sweeping and mopping floor, very fast paced work environment, wages $ 9.5 to 10 with free foods (not officially, I mean Chef are not always at one place, so if your chef went to next room, grab with both hand whatever you can and filled up everything in your mouth, pockets whatever place you find) they really do not care.

thnks dude, i tried almost evrywhere... markham road eglinton , ellesmere road.. but i cant find any...
as i am new i dunno anything here,... tell me places where i can find jobs... like gardening,,, and also hotels....

Contact the International Student Office in your College. They will be really helpful. And look around places when you're walking around the area for adds. They place them right there on the window. And hang in there man. You will get in very soon! :)

That's correct. During the first six months it is illegal to work off campus. After you have completed six months of studies, then you can apply for an off campus work permit (if you attend a recognized school which qualifies for an off campus work permit).

The International Student Office will not help the OP since he's looking to work illegally. The off campus jobs posted at the International Student Office are for students who have an off campus work permit and are legally allowed to work off campus.

You should try finding an on-campus job then since that doesnt require a work permit. But it is really hard to get.

Could you explain why it's illegal to work during first 6 months off campus. Don't worry I am a Canadian citizen, still I am asking this question because I really do not understand the logic behind it. I mean Canadian Govt. is charging 3 times tution fees and still making it difficult for international students to work off campus. If that's the case, Govt. should not charge any differential tution fee from students. It's should be a RIGHT of international student to work off campus during first 6 months, I mean not all students are financially strong. It takes not thousands but millions of efforts to arrange every single piece of paper work + visa work + admission work + loan + so much of stress, so it's obvious for Govt. to understand that students need financial strength to continue study in Canada.

I protest this law.

By the rule its illegal to do job without work off campus.........but many student are working without any work permit........?

You can work illegally as long as you dont get caught! But if you do. Youre doomed!! :P

I know what I am saying.

Chances of being caught exist when you are working for an establishment, mainly when there is a co-ordinate raid or some tip-off. But I have not seen any such case. You should work mainly in homes like a Gardener/furniture mover/dishwasher in a Chinese restaurant/live-in-care/laborer. Even Canadians (students) prefer cash based jobs becasue they do not have to pay tax. So, it is not just international students working on cash basis. now days it's a summer time, everyone is busy in working here and there. Normal wages are 12 dollars/hour. It's EXTREMELY RARE for any employer to hire you without a SIN number. You won't get SIN before 6 months (Yes, you can get a one if you are working on co-op/on-campus job). These Canadian are known to respect laws.

In simple terms, I do not see any risk in a cash base job. If there is any jackass who doubt this, just google and search "International student deported from Canada" (There is one Mexican but the issue was different).

I know a friend of mine who was working in a restaurant but he and the restaurant owner got a warning when they found out that he was working without a permit.
