Hello guys

Was hoping I can pick your brain/wisdom on few things...

I would like to sponsor my mom and dad, but I also have a brother who is a minor and my parents' dependent at the moment...Does that mean I'll be including him in a sponsorship application as well?

Another question, is the sponsorship program opened now or it's closed until Jan 2015?

Yes - you will include your brother as a dependent in your parents' sponsorship application.

Yes - the program is closed until January 2015 since the cap for this year has been reached.

Thank you @ scylla do you know how they determine which applications to take when the program opens in 2015? Or is is purely based on when a person applied - first come first served?

As long as your brother is 18 or under as of January 2015, he is a minor and must be included in the application. So your family size will be you (1), plus mom/dad/brother (3), plus your spouse/own dependent kids (if applicable).

Make sure based on your family size, you meet the parents LICO amounts for 2011, 2012 and 2013... if you intend to apply when program re-open in January 2015.

I expect based on the high demand to get the 5000 spots and all the people that missed out last time, the program will fill up quicker than it did last year, so you will have 1, maybe 2 weeks maximum to get the completed application in to CIC in January.

The program is not open now, so you can't send anything now.

Sometime in late December CIC will release updated forms in preparation for when the program re-opens in January 2nd, 2015. Only from that date can you send the application.

Yes he needs to be counted in family size. Of course he can also be a co-sponsor to combine your incomes.

If it's you, your common-law spouse, and 3 people sponsored that is family size of 5. So you'll need CRA notices of assessment for 2011 at $60,905, 2012 at $62,023 and 2013 in the neighbourhood of $63K.

As mentioned with RobTO, you must also maintain minimum LICO during the entire Parent PR sponsorship process until they land. So if you have a child born in 2016, you must add the child to family size and meet the 2016 LICO for family size of 6 until your family lands.
