I know its a multiple entry visa for 10 years and needs to be renewed every 2 years... Can it be renewed from within Canada? I.E if a parent is in Canada on this visa can he/she stay there for 10 years without having to leave Canada every 2 years?

It doesn't make sense why Canada govt would want a parent to leave Canada even if that parent has private health insurance and is not burden on its economy in any way.. then why this extra travel expense and trouble for the old-age parent? :-X

I do not believe that the parents would have to leave Canada every two years. What they (CIC) say is that the parents would have to 'extend' their stay every two years. This can be done within Canada. It is not clear how many times this an be extended or how long they can stay with each extension they get. But its still a long way off.

Oh God you applied in 2008 and still your case in pending? Just saw ur time line... whats the matter why they are taking so long on your file?

It took quite some time for CIC to process all parents/grandarents sponsorship application. This is because, such applications are not considered as 'priority'. As a result there was a backlog of applications. Hence they have started the new supervisa category.
