Dear All,

I went to renew my passport in Canada, before applying for the PGWP. I was told that the old passport would be stamped as cancelled. What I am concerned about is the status of my valid visa in the old passport. I have valid US visa in that. How would it impact my visa? I have read that in some countries the passports with valid visas are not marked as cancelled, such as in India or even in Pakistan itself. However, here in Canada, they told me they will be cancelling the previous passport with the stamp on it as well.

Can someone with this concern or experience, please share their views regarding this? Really appreciate the help. Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Your biometric page most likely will say cancelled on your old passport , however your valid visas will remain and they can't post a seal stating invalid. So you need to travel with two passports . From what source they said such thing ? . Cheers.

The OP is misreading their statement,

There is only a small stamp on the first page of passport which would say

"A new passport has been issued in lieu of this one." Nothing more, nothing less.

As already mentioned, this only invalidates the current passport. All visas in it - remain valid till their expiry and you travel carrying both, period.

P.S. For the sake of OP's satisfaction, I have the same passport and have been through this situation - more than once.

Oh great, thank you! Who is this OP? Is there any document I could direct them too? Really appreciate the help.

Best,

Hey All,

Thanks for the help. Got the new passport stamp on the old one. Hopefully they would have updated the system. Touchwood.
